July 19 The Grand Marquis (Jazz & Blues) / MUSIC IN THE PARK
2012 MUSIC IN THE PARK at the SEATON FAMILY PAVILION in FOREST PARK at 13TH & BROADWAY.
The Grand Marquis performs the best of vintage jazz and blues standards. The Grand Marquis have that classic, timeless 'straight from the Kansas City speakeasy' sound while injecting a vibrant relevance into their brand of hot swinging jazz & jumping blues. Versatile and buoyant, distinct and refreshing a rhythm cocktail served by masterful musical mixologists.
The Grand Marquis' music can bring to mind a variety of settings and places as well: Prohibition era KC, the streets of New Orleans , 1950s Memphis and even 1930s Paris . But their sound remains grounded in a roots influence that keeps inspiring the Grand Marquis to create, innovate and build off a solid foundation of American music. Theirs is a style that defies the limitations of category, whether jazz, blues or swing, yet finds favor with a wide audience.
All concerts start at 7:30 p.m., and concessions will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year, Dixon ’s Fixin’s Catering & Concessions and Genelle’s Kettle Korn of Parsons will serve as the official concessionaires of Music in the Park.

July 26 Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band (Zydeco) / MUSIC IN THE PARK
2012 MUSIC IN THE PARK at the SEATON FAMILY PAVILION in FOREST PARK at 13TH & BROADWAY.
The final concert for the Music in the Park series will feature a return engagement of the Grammy Award winning zydeco ensemble Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band on July 26. The Scott, Louisiana , native is highly regarded as the “World’s Premier Zydeco Showman.” Each year Chubby and his band travel more than 175 days performing at festivals and venues internationally.
As a third generation zydeco artist, Chubby’s love of the music comes naturally. He started playing drums in his dad’s band at the age of twelve, before switching to the accordion at fifteen. By the age seventeen he was playing around the world with Terrance Siemien. Since starting his own band in 1989, Chubby Carrier has recorded 10 albums. All his hard work paid off in 2011 when his release “Zydeco Junkie” received the award in the Best Zydeco or Cajun Music category at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.
As good as the recordings are, Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band are best known for their high-energy live performances. Once the accordion playing virtuoso grabs the microphone and takes to the stage with his bandmates, audiences are treated to a show like no other. Chubby’s sound is infectious – a concoction of blues, 70s funk, rock and roll, and good ole zydeco flavor – and makes even the most timid individuals get their feet a movin’. Like the man himself proclaims, “there ain’t no party like a Chubby party, because a Chubby party don’t stop!”
All concerts start at 7:30 p.m., and concessions will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year, Dixon ’s Fixin’s Catering & Concessions and Genelle’s Kettle Korn of Parsons will serve as the official concessionaires of Music in the Park.
