A Little About Parsons, KS

Parsons Kansas is located in the northern part of Labette County. It is the most populous city of Labette County, and it is the second most populous city in the southeastern region of Kansas.


In 2006 Downtown Parsons was awarded the Great American Main Street Award for its successful efforts in revitalizing its downtown area through historic preservation. Parsons was one of only five cities receiving the 2006 award.
Parsons Kansas was named after Judge Levi Parsons, promoter and president of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad, also called the KATY.
Parsons,KS was founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1871
A historical marker for the Bloody Benders sits a mile northwest of Bender Mounds at the US-400 and US-169 interchange north of Cherryvale and West of Parsons.
On April 19, 2000 a dangerous tornado cut a devastating path of destruction through Parsons, KS. Hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed as well as many businesses.
The actress ZaSu Pitts was born in Parsons, Kansas on January 3, 1894.
On May 12 of 1882 Parsons Publics Schools had its first graduate, Miss Maude G. Keyser. She was the only graduate that year.
Shaun Hill Quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings was born on January 9, 1980, in Parsons, KS.  

He has also played for the San Francisco 49'ers, Detroit Lions, and St. Louis Rams.

The first Parsons High School, costing $30,000, was built in 1893 at 26th and Main. Prior to this time high school classes were held in the 3rd ward school. The school offered a three year course with one year of post-graduate work. It was not until the early 1900's that it offered a full four year course.
